    The Career Centers of Bristol County represent our flagship product to develop universal services to job seekers and employers. The vision of the Career Centers is to enable employers and individuals to maximize their opportunities for economic prosperity. The collective efforts of the Career Center management and partners have given the Workforce Investment Area an advanced understanding and command of the dynamics and challenges of the integration of and collaboration in employment and training services. Available at the Career Centers are a multitude of services for job seekers and employers.


    Career Center Partners: Representing a wide array of organizations committed to workforce development, our Career Center partners include The Bristol County Training Consortium (lead agency), The Division of Career Services, The Division of Unemployment Assistance, The Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, Office of the Attorney General, The Education Opportunity Center, Job Corps, School to Career Parnerships, and the Department of Transitional Assistance.


    Job Seeker Services

    Information on Job Openings and Referral to Job Openings: Any customers wishing information on job openings may peruse the newspapers and other periodicals in the resource area, conduct a search on the internet in the Computer Orientation Service area or conduct a search on America's Job Bank. Career Center Job Developers will facilitate referral to America's Job Bank or other listed job openings if necessary.

    Information and Referral to Training and Educational Opportunities: The Career Center Resource Areas offer customers a variety of information on training and education opportunities. Information and referral to outstationed resources are provided in a group setting by workshop leaders and on an individual basis by Career Center Case Managers and Counselors. Appropriate eligible individuals may have their training or education funded by one of the Career Center partners. Those who are not eligible for this funding may meet with a representative of the Education Opportunity Center to discuss career decisions and alternative sources of funding for their training or education needs, including assistance in applying for federal financial aid.

    Access to Labor Market Information: Labor market information is presented initially during the Career Center Orientation and later during counseling. Job seekers are also able to do market research on their own through resource materials available at the Career Centers.

    Participation in Job Search Workshops: Any interested customers may attend (one or more) Career Center Workshops. Workshops are planned around resume writing, interview skills, networking, and virtually every job search modality.

    Unemployment Insurance Technical Assistance and Registration Help: Eligible job seekers are offered income maintenance, issue resolution, the ability to receive assistance in the use of the automated phone claim system, and the opportunity to file claims for unemployment insurance on-site.

    Assessment, Career Counseling and Development of Customer Action Plans: Career Center staff will offer customers an initial assessment, which will include an assessment of skill levels, aptitudes, abilities and supportive service needs. Customers desiring the development of action plans will meet with a Career Counselor from the appropriate partner agency. The Counselor will help the customer develop an individualized plan which will define the steps and resources necessary to take to achieve self-sufficiency, gainful employment and economic prosperity.

    Job Placement Assistance: Career Center staff will direct job seekers to the America's Job Bank and contact companies regarding positions for which they are qualified.

    Supportive Services: Counselors will determine the job seekers' need for supplemental assistance in order to succeed in employment. These could include the resources necessary to achieve self-sufficiency, gainful employment and economic prosperity, such as child care or transportation, or similar services. Individuals who do not qualify for supportive services will be referred by Career Center staff to local sources of help.

    Computer Orientation Services: Eligible job seekers may utilize the Computer labs located at each of the three Career Centers of Bristol County. The sixty hour course includes instruction in keyboarding, Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access



    Employer Services

    Access to Professional Account Representatives and Account Management Services: Account management services include solicitation, posting and dissemination of job orders, referral of qualified applicants for job openings, and internet listings.

    Employer Recruitment Services: Employer recruitments are conducted by all Centers. Both the employer and the specific Career Center hosting the event are responsible for marketing and outreach. Customized recruitment will be implemented for any new employer to the Workforce Investment Area. Staffing resources will be shared among the three Career Centers to provide technical assistance to any area business.

    Initial Pre-screening of Applicants Prior to Referral: Based on the qualifications desired by employers when job orders are filed, Career Center job developersor Employment Services Account Managers will pre-screen applicants for job openings prior to their referral to the employer.

    Labor Market Information, Information on Applicant Pool and Qualifications of Potential Applicants: As requested, employers are offered information on the Workforce Investment Area's labor market, the characteristics and skill levels of the available applicant pool, information on those qualified job seekers who are currently seeking employment and prevailing wage data.

    Access to Talent Bank: Interested employers may receive information on the qualifications of individuals currently seeking employment. Employment Service Account Managers or Career Center Job Developers can provide employers with the resumes of qualified job seekers and may contact the job seekers on behalf of the employers. This represents an easily accessible pool of local applicants.

    Information on Local Availability of Training Grants, Skill Development Opportunities and Referral to State Funding Resources: Employment Service Account Managers or Career Center Job Developers will provide interested employers with information on local or state sources of funding for training and employe skill development, along with information on how to access the funds.

    Information on Working With Individuals With Disabilities: Career Center partners offer technical assistance to employers working with the disabled and on the Americans With Disabilities Act compliance issues. Employers may also receive guidance on accessing auxiliary aids, devices and services for individuals with disabilities.

    Information on Unemployment Insurance: Employers are given information on their rights and responsibilities under Massachusetts' Unemployment Insurance system.

    Information on Employment Legal Issues: Representatives of the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office are regularly outstationed at the Fall River Career Center, providing employers from large and small businesses with information on Work Opportunity Tax Credits and Welfare to Work tax credits, along with filing assistance.
